On Saturday, June 26 and Sunday 27, 2021, the first virtual steelpan festival will be held, and streamed on YouTube (Kern Sumerville), Facebook (Kern Sumerville Muzik) and Instagram (kernsumervillemuzik) at 8 pm.
Dejean Cain
Thirty pannists, including 2021 reigning NLCB PanoGrama competition champion, T&T’s Keishaun Julien; reigning NLCB Panograma champion, USA’s Andre White; and pannists from the reigning national Panorama Large-band champion, Desperadoes Steel Orchestra, T&T’s twin Dejean and Deja Cain, and other noteworthy pannists, Johann Chuckaree, Earl La Pierre Jr., Tyeesha Alexander, Kersh Ramsey, and upcoming pan sensations, Canada’s Trenyce Sweeney and Guyana’s Detroy Dey are expected to perform.
Keishaun Julien
Barbados, Guyana, St. Croix, Cayman Island, Alberta, Japan, Ghana, Germany, Antigua and Barbuda, US Virgin Island, France, USA, England, Canada, Jamaica and T&T, are scheduled to be represented. Kern Sumerville
Kern Anthony Sumerville is a solo vocalist and prolific steel pannist, arranger, bandleader, drummer, and drillmaster. He has been serving in the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) Band for the past 17 years. Corporal Sumerville is the leader, second in command, and musical director of the TTPS Steel Orchestra. Kern holds a Certificate in Music from the University of the West Indies and is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music at the University of Trinidad & Tobago.
